What to Plant and Sow in February

February may feel early, but it’s actually a great month to start planting and sowing — especially under cover.

What to sow indoors or in a greenhouse

  • Tomatoes, peppers, chillies
  • Sweet peas
  • Basil, parsley, coriander
  • Early salad leaves

What to plant outdoors (weather permitting)

  • Bare-root shrubs and hedging
  • Garlic and shallots
  • Early potatoes (in mild areas or containers)

Tips for success

  • Use clean trays and fresh compost
  • Provide plenty of light to avoid leggy seedlings
  • Harden plants off slowly before moving outside
